Florida Grand Opera (FGO): 1992 - 1998

 

Resident Associate Conductor, 1995 - 1998: Assist guest conductors, coach principal and comprimario artists, conduct rehearsals and performances when assigned or called upon.

 

Director, Young Artist Studio, 1992 - 1998: A training program for eight to ten singers and one coach/accompanist. Responsible for artistic and administrative direction of program, as well as day-to-day operation.

 

Both positions required close working relationships with all Florida Grand Opera personnel.

 

Artistic Duties:

 

Conductor for Young Artist and Technical Apprentice Productions, In-School Opera rehearsals and orchestral recordings; Associate Conductor for assigned productions; Principal Coach for Young Artists including preparation of comprimario, cover and understudy roles; Pianist for recitals, community performances, company advocacy programs, education programs, auditions and rehearsals when needed; Screen applicants, audition, interview and select future Young Artists; Audition and cast principal artists in close conjunction with the Director of Artistic Administration; Audition chorus members; Provide repertoire guidance for individual Young Artists; Select opera for annual Young Artist and Technical Apprentice Production; Select repertoire for scenes programs; Cast, program, schedule, rehearse/oversee and perform in community programs - casts comprised primarily of Young Artist Studio members, supplemented by local singers and pianists; Screen opera composition submittals; Prepare orchestra parts for Young Artist Productions

 

Administrative Duties:

 

Hire Young Artists; Select and hire resident and visiting faculty (Voice, Master Class, Languages, Body Movement, Acting, Seminars) and negotiate contracts; Budget for Young Artist Studio; Monitor budget; Assist with mainstage music budgeting; Prepare and publish schedule for Young Artist Studio (classes, coachings, rehearsals and performances); Assist with future season scheduling; Schedule and contract community performances; Represent FGO at company advocacy performances and functions; Arrange travel and accommodations for Young Artists and faculty; Write scripts for educational Middle School Program; Supervise Production Assistant for Titles; Provide text for program application, season program book and board of directors book, fund raising efforts, grant applications and performances; Coordinate NEA on-site program evaluations and provide information for on-site company evaluations; Rent orchestra parts and negotiate royalties
